Talking About it Tuesday/Savannah, Georgia ~ September 10, 2024

Happy Tuesday! I went on a weekend trip to Savannah, one of the most beautiful cities!

I decided a few days prior to join Brook on her back to school move in weekend.
We had a 9 1/2 hour drive plus a quick stop at Buc-ees. We drove 3 hours of 2 lane highways to avoid driving through Atlanta during rush hour Friday afternoon traffic.
Once we got unpacked at her new townhouse, I drove to a friend's apartment for a visit. I have an old friend who lives there & she stored a few of Brook's bags over the summer. It was great to get a quick visit with her.
The next morning, my father in law had come to Savannah to drop off a few more things they stored for Brook over the summer. We had breakfast with him then he drove back to Charlotte.
Brook & I went antique shopping with her roommate & her mom.
There were these cool first class seats from TWA dated to 1972 in the antique store.
There was a cute soda shop inside this store.
There were so many beautiful doors & windows too.

We went to a restaurant & saw this Memphis sticker!
That evening, I took a walk with roommate's mom & it was nice to get to know her.
Here are a few pictures along our walk.

Sunday was a rainy day, so we stayed in until mid afternoon.  We went to run a few errands and then Brook and I went to a local church that evening.
So many little stories happened at this church, but here are 2 that confirmed we were meant to be there at that time:

1.  Elvis gospel music was playing over the speakers when we walked in the church.  I kid you not.
2.  I got to meet Harrison Scott Key!  He is the author of 3 books, with his most recent one being his most known one, "How to Stay Married, the Most Insane Love Story Ever Told".  He was a guest on the Big Boo Podcast and several others as well.  He has also written "The World's Largest Man" and "Congratulations, Who are You Again?"

After church, Brook and I ate at CAVA.  I really like this place, but we don't have one here.

Monday morning, Brook took me to the airport, but before we left, we took a few pictures. Here is roommate's mom, me, Brook, and roommate. They live on the west coast, so I learned a lot about their different way of life.
I am so, so thankful I decided last minute to come on this trip with my daughter!
Here are these girls are on their first day of school, junior year of college!

Have y'all ever seen anything like this?  This was at a store in the airport.

I made it home and turned right around to go to book club.  It was good to join again this month and eat dinner together with others.

Now back to work today!  Hope you have a great day!

Hello Monday ~ September 12, 2022/College Move In

Good morning & happy Monday!  I am back to link up for Hello Monday.

We left town last Wednesday to begin the journey for college drop off.  We took 2 cars so our daughter will have a car at college.  My husband and I were able to take turns riding with her which was nice and then we also had some time alone.  I spent most of my time alone listening to podcast, but I'm hardly ever caught up it seems.
The packing wasn't too bad and everything fit in the back of both cars.
Of course we stopped at Buc-ees for brisket!
During my car time with her, I gave her a few last minute reminders of life and some throwback inspirational music such as this classic..."Oh Be Careful" reminding her to be careful in this new adventure.
We stopped at a hotel along the way and arrived into Savannah Thursday afternoon.  We drove to look at her buildings where her classes will be.  Her classes are spread out in the city since there isn't an actual campus of buildings in one spot.  We ate at this restaurant for dinner, which was very good.
We also saw these two fun marquees in town!

The next day was move in day.  It was rainy, but thankfully, we were able to unpack in a garage and got everything up in one load in a huge bin they provided.
There is an area for freshman dorms, which has a cafeteria and a fitness center.  We had lunch in the cafeteria.
She had not met her roommate (or anyone else) until move in day.  Thankfully, she has a really sweet roommate from New Jersey.  We really like her family as well.  We all had some orientation meetings in the afternoon and then they had a meeting that evening.  We parted ways in the afternoon as she spent her first night in the dorm.
The next morning, we explored a little bit of beautiful Savannah before we picked her up for lunch.  We found a local hamburger place.
We then met a family who is related to one of our pastors here to make a local contact, which was nice.  We all met at this beautiful park.  In addition to this, Savannah has about 20 squares of green space with shops and restaurants surrounding them.  I am looking forward to exploring more of the city!
We then drove about 20 minutes to the local beach on the Atlantic to see the water.
We sat outside at a local restaurant to eat seafood.
In a random series of events, I was able to connect with a friend I had not seen in 25 years who moved to the area last year.  We visited while my husband and daughter went grocery shopping.
Sunday morning, we went to her dorm to see it all put together.  She is all settled and ready for classes to begin today.
We said farewell, shed a few tears and I ate my feelings on the way home, which also included another stop to Buc-ees.

The new chapter begins and I think I shared enough pictures for a week :).  I appreciate all the encouragement here this past week.

Have a good Monday friends!
