Journey Into Space

Happy Monday!

As mentioned last week, I mentioned I took my younger daughter to a space exhibit last week.  She and I have had a space interest in the past 10 years, so it is always fun to learn more.  The more we learn, the more questions we have as well.  It is so fascinating to learn about space travel.

We had fun playing this game where we had to stay alive as we balanced battery life while going between solar energy and the night time.

Here we stood on a mock component of the International Space Station.

Here we tested how much a jar of peanut butter would weigh on different planets.

And here we are on planet Mars!

This girl, who is now taller than her momma, has always had an interest in space.  We had the coolest space birthday party for her when she turned 6, so almost 10 years ago! Here is a picture from when she was 5:
I could post lots more space pictures of her from childhood and if you're interested, I will post some old birthday party pictures soon.

Happy Monday!

Solar Eclipse 2017

The whole world knew about it, the USA was watching, it came and it went.....Solar Eclipse 2017

First stop, lunch at Huey's downtown.

Then we headed to Autozone Park where the Memphis Redbirds play baseball.

We were provided with glasses and it allowed us to be outside the entire 3 hours.  This was the hottest day so far in August in Memphis! But it still was not record temperatures thankfully.
Isabella seeing it for the first time.
Brook's reaction
10 minutes until the peak eclipse in Memphis
4 minutes until time to totality
They would also show clips of it on the jumbotron.
In case you are wondering, yes, I wore my International Space Station t-shirt and my Memphis Redbirds cap to the game.  My worst fashion this day was wearing jeans on a hot day!
It was a good, yet a little hot day, for us and we were thankful to be downtown because we heard there was cloud coverage and some rain in our neighborhood.
And Avery went home with one of the game day baseballs!!

The Night Sky

I do enjoy the looking at the night sky.  It makes me happy to look outside and watch the International Space Station pass over our house. It is always during the crew's sleep time, but I think about the lives that are living in space, the people working on the ground 24/7 to make that happen, and the chance that one day, Brook may be living in space!  But mostly, I am in awe of God's creation.  How He spoke it all into existence and even named the stars.  My God is a genius!

Wednesday night, the girls and I stayed at the playground at church after service while Avery was at choir practice.  With our spring weather, we have been spending lots of time there with friends.  We are so thankful for our church and friends there.  God has given us more than we deserve, as He always does.  We stayed at church until it was dark and we saw two beautiful bright stars in the sky.  We realized these stars were Venus and Jupiter! We came home, pulled out the telescope to the middle of our street (we live at a dead end), and got a close-up view of Venus, since it was actually the brightest in the sky.  Here is my best attempt at a picture to share:

The faint light you to the left in this picture is Jupiter, and the brighter light is Venus.

That was our mid-week excitement of spring break! Or should I say, my excitement!  We are so enjoying our spring break.  I am thankful for the staycation.  We have been able to do several little things around here, even though a few more things are still on the list.  It has been great & makes me look forward to summer!

Brook in space

Brook is our aspiring astronaut and had quite an exciting event occur on Friday, January 7, 2012.  She received an envelope from NASA, which was quite exciting just to see in our mailbox!  We don't want to miss out on the gifts of life though, so she quickly opened the envelope to find a personalized, autographed photo enclosed from her favorite astronaut, Tracey Caldwell-Dyson!

I had written NASA back in September requesting this with thoughts of Brook's upcoming birthday in October.  However, I honestly did not expect to receive something personalized to Brook!  It was so inspiring to see a handwritten note..."Dream big and study hard".  That is her motto now!

Brook has ambitions of being a scientist, then working in mission control in Houston, and then becoming an astronaut.  I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for this little vibrant girl who has a mind that amazes me!

Isn't she cute??
