TBB Asks ~ January 2019 Entertainment Edition

Happy Monday and Lord be with me as I go back to a full work week.  Amen.

Today is the monthly link up with The Blended Blog questionnaire.  This month's topic is all about entertainment.
Book you have read multiple times

If you have teenagers, I recommend this book by Jodie Berndt.  It covers 5 broad topics, with many subtopics under each one:  character, relationships, health/safety, victory over temptation and future.  The same author has similar books for your children and adult children.

Favorite book/author of all time

Unglued devotion by Lysa Terkeurst

Priscilla Shirer

Favorite TV show to binge

If I just sit down and really want to binge, my go to is The Office or Parks and Recreation.  I do still enjoy many old Seinfeld and Friends episodes too.

Favorite new-ish TV show

When Calls the Heart

Married at First Sight

Blackish

This is Us

Favorite movie of all time

Sweet Home Alabama

The Proposal

The Holiday

Movie you are looking forward to watching

Instant Family

I keep a list of movies on my phone that I want to see and this is one I have not seen yet.

First concert you attended

Elvis

This was July 1976 and one of my earliest memories.

Ultimate concert (even if it can't happen)

Huey Lewis and the News

I have seen Huey many times, but this would still be my choice.  I love his music and hearing him play the harmonica and interaction with his band.  He has lost his hearing, so has not been able to perform the last year and there is no sign of it coming back at this point.

Favorite music artist/band

Huey Lewis and the News

How do you listen?

Spotify and most recently,  a vinyl record player

We got a vinyl record player for Christmas and just hooked it up last week.  My girls had seen one, but had never heard an album play until we set it up last week.  It was so fun to pull out some old albums!

Friday Favorites ~ January 4, 2019

ONE

All the Christmas decorations are put away, but I do have my winter decorations displayed.  I am happy to still have a few more lights on display :)

TWO

Speaking of Christmas, here is a recap of our Christmas holiday....

THREE

We got a new coffee table and I am excited for this new look.  It gives us a little more room and we had not purchased one since we moved into our house 2 years ago.

FOUR

New lamp, new picture, new paint...A few weeks ago, I accidentally broke the lamp we had on our entry way table.  I bought this new lamp for our table.  That inspired me to paint the table.  I have only painted the sides and top so far, because I need to decide on hardware for the drawers before I paint those.  Once those were done, I needed a new print since the new lamp is not as tall as the other one.  In addition to painting the front, I am working on ordering a photo for my new frame.  Here is the look before and after...

FIVE

I have loved having a couple days off the past two weeks.  It has been good to spend some time at home with family.  A day off work is always a favorite.  Of my days working, I was able to have a lunch date with my husband one day and the girls another day.  I also was able to work a half day from home this week...look at my fancy set up :)
(more about the new cabinets you see coming soon)

Enjoy the first weekend of 2019!

Share Your Goals

Today I am linking up with Jen and Jenna in the Share Your series...
Today is about sharing goals and resolutions.  Funny enough, I saw this picture on social media this week:

I did write out a few goals for this year and will share some of them here.

1.  Speak kindly ... especially to my family and of my family to others

2.  Meal plan  ...  I go through ups and downs of doing this, but will try to do this weekly.  I have learned anything beyond that isn't too realistic for me.

3.  House improvements ... We have a few things to do this year, but mainly continue with some finishing touches to projects.

4.  Time with friends  ... I have realized I need time out with friends occasionally and hope to do that more this year.

5.  Exercise more ... This is always a goal, right??

6.  Spiritual growth ... This is also a goal to challenge me to spend more time reading and in worship.

Where do I see myself in 5 years?  As best I can think at this moment...

Living with my husband in our home, which will have some more improvements by then.  We have come so far in just 2 years!

My oldest will be out of college....gasp!   And my youngest will be in college.

My husband and I will be working full time.

A few more family vacations would have be taken.

...and now a quick look at our New Year Eve....

We went to a friend's house and had good conversation, food and fun.

Christmas Recap

Today I am sharing my Christmas Eve and Day recap.

My brother and his family spent the night before Christmas Eve with us.  These sweet cousins exchanged gifts.
I spent the morning preparing dishes for our Christmas morning brunch.
My girls and their cousin.
Christmas family photo
A highlight of Christmas is having young ones around again.  This sweet girl loves seeing herself on the phone :).
Opening gifts is so fun!
My two beautiful nieces showing off a pillow with my parents' grandkids and great grandkids names.

That night, we opened gifts from family in North Carolina and also gifts to and from one another.  It was a fun time.
Christmas morning, shenanigans...
It was a little too warm to have a real fire going, so I had a fire going on the tv :)
Merry Christmas girls!
My husband and daughters

We hosted Christmas brunch at our home.  Here is my sister with my girls.
After everyone left, we took a walk to the lake then watched our traditional movie, The Nativity Story.  Every time I watch it, I think of new aspects of the Christmas story and am moved to tears.

So thankful for the sweet memories!

Happy New Years!

January 1, 2019

I am thankful for a day off work today and for a new year.  Hope you all have a good start to your New Year!

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
