Weekend Wrap Up

Oh Monday.  We do enjoy our weekends of freedom, but another Monday represents the start to making it through another week.  The countdown is beginning to being back in Memphis again. All of a sudden, Christmas seems like so long ago!

To recap our weeekend, here are the highlights:

We took the girls to their youth groups Friday night and Avery and I went to dinner. Below is a photo from the middle school group.  It is kind of hard to tell, but Brook is in the center, sitting down in a white shirt.

Saturday was filled with laziness,  Well, except for Isabella who did go babysit.  The rest of our time was catching up on some tv.  Isabella and I finished season 3 of  "When Calls the Heart" and I watched a few more episodes of  "Ed" this weekend.  

We went to church Sunday, then we went to lunch with Edwin.  We saw him Easter, but due to our schedules and how far he lives from us in the city, we haven't seen him since then.  After lunch, he came over to the apartment and spent the rest of the day with us.

This is us introducing American food to him.  He tried peanut butter for the first time and did not like it.  Most Colombians really don't like peanut butter.  In his other hand, he was holding a bag of Cheez Its.

The rest of Sunday eveningwas homework and early bedtime.  

Today, Avery and I will go to a parents meeting (in Spanish) for Isabella's class.  This will be the 2nd time that I have been around these parents since the first week of school.  

Oh, and we've made it 5 days with no grains, dairy or sugar, but I am staying exhausted, so pray for energy and willpower, especially in social settings.

Friday Favorites

This week I found on You Tube one of my favorite tv series, Ed.  I started "binge watching", which is like 2-3 episodes a day for me, this show this week and have so enjoyed it.

At bible study this week, I was able to love on baby Isabelle, the first South African baby born in Colombia!  There are several South African ladies in my group and they are so sweet.

Avery and I are cutting out sugar, grains and dairy for 3 weeks.  I was grateful to find no sugar added bacon in Bogota at Pricesmart this week!

Wednesday, the girls had a half day of school, which is almost equal to a full day of school in the states because they were gone from 6:30-1pm.  Come 'on summer!!

It's been a busy, emotionally draining week for me.  I am ready for the weekend and always thankful for a fresh start to the days.  Tonight, we will take the girls to youth group and hopefully have a relaxing Saturday.  

Stranded!

Today I am participating in a new blog series called Stranded. Today's topic is:

"If you were Stranded on a deserted island and could only take three things, what would they be?"

Well, first let me say, if I were ever on Survivor, I have often joked I would be the first one voted off the island because I would be so miserable!  Isabella told me a few weeks ago that I might stay longer because I wouldn't be a threat, ha!  Also, Avery would be in his element on a deserted island if he had his kit.  I think he would just want someone to be around with him :).  There are so many things I can think of to take with me, (I mean, have you seen me pack when I go to the states knowing there is a Wal-Mart there??), but here are the top 3 that came to mind:

First, would be foundation.  I like a little color on my face and this foundation has primer, concealer, but the best part....broad spectrum sunscreen!

Keeping it real....toilet paper please.  

And third, I would want a toothbrush.  Hopefully, Avery has some toothpaste in his kit and I could make it a day on a stranded island.  Also, hopefulluy he has materials to build a bridge or airplane so I can escape back to the mainland!

Today is a half-day for the girls, so it is a happy Wednesday around here!

Weekend Wrap Up ~ Medellin

It's Monday again and we have a busy day around here.  The girls are off to school and we have a team meeting today and a trip to the import store!!  We spent the weekend in Medellin and here are our photos!

There was a Reformed Theology Conference in Medellin last week that Avery attended.  I joined the ladies group on Friday of the conference.

While I went to my session Friday morning, Avery stayed at the hotel pool with the girls. The building with the huts is the restaurant, where we ate twice.  

We ordered basically fajitas and they brought this stone for us to cook our meat.

Saturday morning, we went to a breakfast place with the Floyds to begin our tourist day.  I had fruit, eggs, bacon, bread and hot chocolate.

Botero is a Colombian artist and is from Medellin.  There is an area called the Botero Plaza which has some of his statues displayed.

Ricardo, the brother of Laura, the girlfriend of Edwin, goes to University in Medellin and spent the day with us.  We also had dinner with him Friday night.  We had met him twice before when we were in Bucaramanga.

We visited the art museum, Museo Antioquia.

This is hard to tell, but this is a painting of paint brushes attached to the canvas.

This one was my favorite.  It is a painting of Colombus Circle in New York City.  It was pretty impressive for a painting!  

Another neat piece of art work which has reverse color patterns.

This is a little blurry, but it reminded of me of the paintings from "Pawnee City Hall" from "Parks and Recreation".

There was a short film we watched on Botero in the museum.

We then went to the Parque Explora, which was a hands on science museum basically.

As you can see, there was lots of fun with outside experiments!

There were also some fun inside illusion tricks!

We ended our day going to one of the largest malls in Colombia for a snack and to watch the sunset.  Inside was a massive kids area.  This mall has 5 floors.  

We enjoyed our short time away and are thankful we were able to see this city.
