What's Up Wednesday ~ August 31, 2022

Always glad to be linking up with What's Up Wednesday to recap the month!  Here we go.....

What we're eating this week........
Monday - slow cooker bbq, roasted potatoes, green beans, and Hawaiian rolls  (This is the only meal I'm cooking this week due to no air conditioning in my house).
Tuesday - everyone on their own :)
Wednesday - church
Thursday - out for Mexican
Friday - pizza take out

What I'm remniscing about..........
Where did the time go?  These pictures are when Brook was 4 years old.

What I'm loving..............
Any moment I get with Brook before she leaves for college

What we've been up to................
I have been busy with work - a 5K, hospital deliveries, speaking at a school; I also kept my 2 of my great nieces this week, with the help of Brook.

What I'm dreading..............
I am dreading the 10 hour drive back home after we drop off Brook at college.  I know it will be okay and I am so excited for her, but will miss her so much.

I realized everything will change, our schedule, the way I cook and even doing laundry.  Everything is about to change.

What I'm working on...............
I am working on the checklist for our weekend, packing for college and keeping up with the house in the heat.

What I'm excited about.................
I am trying to get excited about some new opportunities as I become an empty nester.  I am going to substitute teach from time to time and keep my greats occassionally as well.  I also hope to spend time with friends and travel with my husband.

What I'm watching...................
I am enjoying Chesakpeake Shores this season.  I also liked this most recent season of Virgin River.  We watched the Thirteen Lives movie on Amazon and thought it was so good.  I did a deep dive to watch interviews with the kids.

What I'm listening to..........
I am trying to stay up-to-date on all the podcasts!  I really enjoyed the 300th episode of the Big Boo Podcast.  I also enjoyed the Dwell podcast last week.

What I'm wearing..........
Lawd, anything to keep cool.  We are now on day 12 with no air, but they are suppose to come today, so we continue to wait.

What I'm doing this weekend.............
We are having a gathering of the 4 of us for an early celebration of my husband's birthday next month.

What I'm looking forward to next month...........
I have a work trip and get to see my oldest college daughter for a night!
We will also celebrate my husband's 50th birthday!

What else is new................
There have been farewells to Brook from family members this week

I am going to try to post once next week, but y'all know my track record these days :).

Thank you for your kind words during this transition.

Hello Monday ~ August 29, 2022

Back again today for my weekly blog :).  I worked 5 days last week, had an emergency visit to a friend's daughter in the hospital an hour and a half away one day after work , and helped run the largest 5K in our city this week, so it has been busy.  Oh, and we leave next week to take my daughter to college, so trying to squeeze in time and get all the little things.  Here is a weekend update and I will blog again on Wednesday for the month in review.

I worked my regular job last week, but also I was a substitute teacher at a local private school one day.  It has been several years since I have been a sub, but this was my first time to do this in a private school setting.

After a long afternoon with a hospital visit, I did get to visit one of my favorite restaurants in Oxford, MS.  I had not been there in 3 years and this was the best meal I have had in a long time....pot roast, the best mac-n-chesse, fried okra and a roll.

While driving on Friday, I was listening to the Dwell podcast.  They were throwing out some good verses that I really wanted to remember.  I couldn't find any paper while driving, so at a redlight, I wrote on a styrofoam cup in the car:).

Saturday morning was our annual 5K, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit where I work.  We had 1200 registered runners.  It was a great, but hot event!

Sunday after church, we met my parents and sister for lunch so they could say farewell to Brook before we take her next week to school.

Anytime in between these activities, I was locked up in my room because as of Monday, we are on day 11 without air conditioning in our house!  That being said, we have a small portable a/c unit that we have in the bedroom to stay somewhat cool at night.  Let me say having a broken a/c is expensive, not only for repairs, but because we have been going out to eat and stores any chance we can.  Hopefully, it will be fixed this week.

Have a good Monday and I will be back Wednesday!

Weekend Wrap-Up ~ August 22, 2022

Good morning!  It has been a minute since I have been here it seems.  I do miss the space, but life has been a lot lately, so I am hit or miss these days with blogging.  I am trying to keep up with reading others posts though. Here is a little recap from life lately, including the weekend.

First, actually throwing it back to last weekend, my daughter and I drove to see my sister-in-law and niece who were back in the south for a few days.  These cousins have been close since day 1!

My daughter helped me serve dinner last week at church.  It was a fun to do that with her.

The weather was delightful that evening, so we came home and took a walk in our neighborhood.  Look at this sky and all the ducks!

The next night, I was serving dinner to families at our local children's hospital and also said farewell to this co-worker who is moving to do her child life internship in another state.  She will be missed!

I noticed my youngest had put a sticker on her car represnting SCAD.  We will be headed that way in a few weeks.

One of my closest friends brought me these sweet flowers Friday.  They are so pretty and was an encouragement.

Saturday, we explored a state park about an hour and a half away in a small town where I had not been. We couldn't find a local restaurant, but in the Lord's goodness, we came across a food truck that sold brisket.  This was the brisket nachos I had for lunch.

View of the Mississippi River from Helena, Arkansas where some battles of the Civil War took place

Sunday afternoon, I watched the Hallmark movie Dating the Delaneys and it was one of my favorites in a while.  Sunday night, we went to see a production of To Kill A Mockingbird.

If you thrown in a lot of work and then a good dose of exhaustion, that has been life lately.

I keep thinking I'll get on a better blogging schedule, but it may be a few weeks with us still in the midst of preparing to move our youngest to college (her college is on the quarter schedule so that is why she is still home).  I'm not complaining we get a few extra weeks with her!

Enjoy your day!

Hello Monday/Currently

It's a new week!  This is a little bit of Hello Monday and Currently.  I am excited to see Jennifer is hosting Currently!  I am linking up with both today.

First, my weekend update is minimal.  I did run into an old co-worker at a store, which was great and then visited with a friend Saturday evening.  Sunday was church and catching up at home. The only photograph from the weekend was the other little highlight of turning on the tv and seeing one of my all time favorite movies....the original Rocky!  A highight for me was when I went to the Rocky steps in Philadelphia last year.

Now on to this month's Currently!
Loving
I always love it when I get my nails done.  This is something I just started doing this year.  It is a splurge, no doubt, for me, but it is a good feeling on those days to have my nails looking healthy.  I took a few days last week to have my natural nails "breathe" between polish.  During that time, it seems like my nails became weak and brittle, so I am glad to have polish on them again.

Wearing

I am wearing a new shirt this week I bought during our recent tax free weeekend.  I had been wanting something this kelly green color.  I found this one at TJ Maxx.

Dreaming

Like Jennifer, I am also dreaming of fall weather.  Or just weather about 20 degrees cooler so I can work in the yard, take walks and wear a cardigan again :).  In the meantime & as I shared last week, I bought this candle last week.

Hoping

I am hoping for a smooth college transition next month for my daughter and also for becoming an empty nester.  We have some mixed feelings about this new stage of life.  We would appreciate some prayers going forward.  In the meantime, I am hoping for a good week.

Hope your Monday goes well!

Friday Favorites ~ August 5, 2022

Somehow another week has come and gone, and I'm never sad to see a Friday come....unless if I am ending a week of vacation :).  I have just a few pictures to share from the week.

ONE

I started the week with one of my favorite treats, frozen yogurt, with one of my favorite girls.  She spent 2 nights this week with her big sister and it is fun to know they had some sister time.

TWO

I bought a fall candle and needed some hope of fall, so I came home and lit it up.  I do love the wood wick in this candle and that sound.  I purchased this at TJ Maxx, which is my go-to place for candles.

THREE

Yesterday was National Chocolate Chip Day.  I enjoyed reading Maria's post earlier this week with different recipes.  Instead of making some, I had a coupon for a free cookie at a local bakery.  It was my first time to try their cookies, and it was delicous.  I love an old fashioned chocolate chip cookie.  After a day at work, I stopped by to get this and it was finished before I left the parking lot.  Sometimes you just have to treat yourself to the little things!

This is short and sweet (literally with 2 of my 3 pictures being sweets), but I am trying to find the little things to remember in the weeks of work and life.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Prime Purchase ~ June/July 2022

Happy to be linking up this month with Tanya for Prime Purchases.  Outside of a few random things not mentioned, here are some recent Amazon purchases.

ONE

I purchased several of these outdoor picnic blankets for graduation gifts.

TWO

I recently needed a new bedskirt for my bed.  I liked the appeal that with the one below, you don't have to lift the mattress due to it has elastic you can wrap around the bed frame.  I also got one for our guest room.

THREE

My daughter recently went on a mission trip to Mexico and she asked me to purchase the Jesus Storybook Bible to take and share with the kids there.  I purchased the English/Spanish version and she left the bible with the kids.

English/Spanish Jesus Storybook Bible

FOUR

I am always a sucker for trying new mascara and this was a good deal on Amazon Prime Day.  I haven't tried it yet though, but will soon.  I try to replace my mascara every 3 months.

FIVE

These bible verse cards caught my eye to use for encouragement to put in different places.  The set actually came with 2 cards of each verse.

SIX

I have always wanted a label maker and found this one that connects with an app where you type out the words.  You can choose the font on the machine.  I haven't used it a ton yet, but have high hopes to get good use out of this.

SEVEN

My daugher needed a new phone case and we found this one.  It is affordable and seems to stand up to all the criteria of a good phone case.  This one is clear so you can see the phone color through the case. So far, so good.

That's all for this month.
Have a good day!

Friday Favorites ~ February 20, 2026

Woo hoo!  Happy Friday friends! A favorite of mine from last week was spending a morning last weekend with my sister. We went to a bakery a...
