Last week was fall break for school, so we took a long weekend trip to New Orleans. My husband is from Louisiana and it was the first time for our girls to go to his home state. He grew up in a different city, but it was still good to visit his home state.
We left on a Friday after work and stayed in a hotel just an hour or so outside of the city.
Once we arrived Saturday, we spent the day at the World War 2 Museum, which was so great to see and is one of the top museums in the country.
After the museum, we checked into the hotel and the girls enjoyed the view from our cool window.
We explored the city a little on foot that afternoon/evening.
This band was part a of bridal parade. Wedding parties often march down the street in a parade and we saw one while we were there.
This is so New Orleans........
We found this great restaurant for some good cajun food.
We walked to Jackson Square...
And we saw the original Cafe Du Monde, which is famous for its beignets.
It really is a colorful city.
Sunday morning, we found a great place near our hotel for breakfast.
We walked down Bourbon Street and in the French Quarter district again.
We also walked to the Mississippi River.
It was so cool to see the steamboats.
The girls and I actually went into mass at the church pictured below at Jackson Square while Avery went into a Louisiana history museum next door.
It was actually so, so hot this morning. I couldn't imagine being there in the summer.
This is our family picture :)!
Sunday afternoon, my brother and nephew came down and went fishing with Avery.
The girls and I did other important stuff.....like eat beignets for lunch and did some shopping.
Monday morning, we drove back home, but not before stopping along the way to have lunch with my brother, sister-in-law and niece. Brook and Eden love any time together and we love these sweet cousins have stayed close over the years.
It was a great, short get-away, and just the right amount of time in the city.
