Hodgepodge ~ May 15, 2024

Another Wednesday, another Hodgepodge to greet you this mid-week!

. What impresses you?

Honesty, a sense of humor, stylish, calm under pressure, flexibility

2.  Where are you in your family birth order? Do you fit the stereotype of that particular slot? In what way?

I am the 3rd out of 3 kids.  I would say I am a typical 3rd child, in that I probably did get away with more, but didn't cause too much trouble as a child.

3. What motivates you more-a reward or a consequence? Elaborate.

I think I could be motivated by both.  I could be motivated by a reward, if it isn't a competition.  I also think if I knew something important were on the line, I could also be motivated by a consequence.

4. May 14th is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Who thinks biscuits deserve their own day? Do you like biscuits? Make your own? Grab one for breakfast at a drive-through now and then? Which drive-through makes the one you like best? What do you like to put on a biscuit? What's your favorite food or dish that calls for buttermilk?

I do like biscuits, but I honestly don't eat them that often.  That being said, I bought some biscuit mix from the Loveless Cafe in Nashville and plan on making them when I have the girls at home so I don't eat them all by myself. They were delicious!

5. Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? What's your favorite part of a wedding/wedding reception?

Yes!  We have 3 weddings to attend this summer.  The first one will be in less than 2 weeks.  Then there is one in June and one in July.  My favorite part is indeed dancing and good food at the reception.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am on a dress kick.  I ordered 2 more dresses last weekend.  I will blog about those in another post once I decide which ones I keep.  I am mailing back 2 dresses today to Amazon, so it is a revolving door with me and dresses the past few weeks! Dresses are just so cute and they seem so easy for the summer.

Have a great day out there!

Talking about it Tuesday ~ Work Event/May 14, 2024

Good morning.  For today's Talking about it Tuesday, I am sharing about a work event I had last weekend.  I work for a non-profit, so we have several fundraising events throughout the year.  This past weekend was our annual cocktail and auction event.  It is a long day, with months of preparation, but it was a great night overall.

We spent Friday setting up the event site.  We hired a company to do the balloon arches over our signs.
As people entered, there was a champagne wall.
We had a great attendance and we have this at the most beautiful setting to watch the sunset.  All the food was good!
This is me in the center and my teammates.  I am so thankful to work with such a great group of ladies!
Stephanie is my work roommate, since we share an office together.  Also, my dress, which is now out of stock, was $10 online from Walmart!
This is me with my best friend here in town!
It was fun to be with friends at the event.  By the picture above and the picture below, I had changed shoes.  I brought 3 pair to the event....my shoes for the first 2 hours, my shoes for the last hour, and then a pair of even more comforatable shoes for clean up afterwards.
My next door neighbor, who is a hairdresser, styled my hair Friday afternoon and did this up-do.  It is always fun to have someone style my hair.
The sunset was gorgeous!
I enjoyed one of these Set Up drinks.
We also had an auction with over 100 amazing items!  These 3 were my favorite items, from my favorite artist.

Hope you have a great day!

Hello Monday/Share Our Lives ~ May 13, 2024/Mother's Day Edition

Happy Monday!  I am sharing a little about my weekend for Hello Monday and also joining in with Share Our Lives.

I worked all day Friday for a work event, which I will highlight pictures tomorrow.

Saturday, I did random little things and was lazy at home.  Saturday night, I attended a party with my former travel agent co-workers.  This was the group of us who worked together prior to the pandemic when most of us got laid off from our jobs.  Only a few are still working in travel.  This group worked together for a long time, so there were lots of memories and laughs.
The home where we had the gathering was beautiful!

I went to church Sunday morning and then went to my sister's house for the afternoon.  Every year she hosts a crawfish boil.  This year, we had crawfish, but also had other foods since the price of crawfish is crazy these days.  It was so good to be with family, including celebrating with my own mom!  I was able to talk to both of my girls since they were out of town. I am a believer in living life with parallel emotions.  In this case, I was sad to not see my girls and missed them, but was still able to enjoy the day with family and have a good Mother's Day!  I hope you did too!

We had so many delicious desserts!

My youngest great nephew eating crawfish for the first time.
These kids spent lots of tme in the pool!
We had a facetime with my youngest and I talked with my oldest on the phone.
I sure missed my girls, but it was still a great day overall!

Now on to Share our Lives.....

5 Favorite Foods

Pizza - cheese/pepperoni
Mexican - chicken tortilla soup, chicken fajita salad, guacamole
Desserts - frozen yogurt, chocolate chip cookie, key lime pie (I have 22 variations of key lime recipes on my Pinterest!) , Strawberry pretzel salad-WW version!

5 Least Favorite Foods

Sushi
Mushrooms
Beans
Olives
Peanuts

Can you see a theme here?  I don't like anything too slimy :).  I have never had a peanut butter & jelly sandwich in my life because I have never liked peanuts.  I do eat pistachios and pecans, but that is about all the nuts I eat.

Friday Favorites ~ May 10, 2024

Happy Friday friends!  Somehow the week has come and about gone somewhat quickly for me. I have felt a little more tired this week and I think that is partly from a trip last week, working more this week and the temperature feeling warmer.  Thankfully, today is a little more mild.  Here a few favorites from the week..........

I received several packages this week from Amazon of new bedding and some dresses.  I haven't unboxed everything yet, but once I get this done this weekend, I will share more pictures. On Monday, I shared last month's Amazon purchases.

Wednesday, I linked up with Hodgepodge and one question asked about being adventurous.  The most adventurous thing I have ever done I didn't even mention! That was all the experiences I had moving to and living in a different country for 3 years.  Here is a picture from a Mother's Day while living in Bogota', Colombia:
This is Edwin, whom I always called my Colombian son.

While preparing for a work event, my work roommate and I sat outside for a little bit to enjoy the sunshine, well actually the shade, from the front porch of our office.

My weekend consists of a work event, a gathering with my former travel agent co-workers and some family time Sunday.  Unfortunately, I won't see my girls on Mother's Day, but I am still hoping to have a good day and wish all you mother's a relaxing day enjoying time with your kids and/or to yourself!

Hodgepodge ~ May 8, 2024

Happy Wednesday!  I am sharing a little bit of Hodgepodge today with you.......

1. Did you watch the Kentucky Derby this past weekend? Have you ever been to a horse race? Ever ridden a horse? Did you enjoy it? Have you ever been to Kentucky? Do you like Bourbon?
I have watched the Kentucky Derby the past 4-5 years and enjoyed all the festivities of the day.  However, I missed watching most of it this year due to I was out of town, so I just saw the end of the race.  My oldest daughter took horse lessons for a while and she was in a competition once.  There is a horsetrack about 3 1/2 hours from my home and my husband and I went one weekend 26 years ago, so it has been a while.  It was such a fun day though!  I have been to Kentucky and it is such a beautiful state.  I will take a sip of bourbon, but it is pretty strong for me.  That being said, my work roommate and I were just talking about having a toast of bourbon for an upcoming event.

2.  What's something you wish you'd placed in a time capsule twenty-five years ago? I wish I would have put a copy of my wedding vows in a time capsule.

3. Are you adventurous? Elaborate. I am not as adventurous as I once was, so maybe that comes with age for me?  Probably the extent of me being adventurous is enjoying white water rafting!

4. Something you want to make this year? It can be a new recipe, craft, diy project, a milestone you've set for yourself...anything at all. I have a few things I would like to frame.  I also would like to continue to sort through some things to sell at a yard sale.  Another random project I would like to try sometime is to paint a fabric chair.  Have any of you ever done this?  I have seen this done by others and am intrigued.  Of course, there is a process, which includes using the right paint.

5. Cinco de Mayo was also celebrated this past weekend...do you like Mexican food? If so what's your favorite dish? Have you ever been to Mexico?  Margarita-yes or no?I love Mexican food.  My go-to orders are either a taco salad with chicken, especially if it has grilled vegetables and guacamole/avocados or chicken tortilla soup.  I have been to Mexico a few times, but just for the day as a cruise port.  Yes to the margarita!  It is my go-to drink and I prefer a strawberry margarita, frozen please with no salt.  That being said, I don't order it every time I go to a Mexican restaurant, but I do enjoy making one at home.  I did have one last weekend when in Richmond.

For the record, this margarita in Mexico was much better than what I had last weekend!

6. Insert your own random thought here. My random thought is that I am not sure I am ready for the heat and bugs.  I went for a walk Monday night and got my first mosquito bite of the season.  Tuesday evening. it was a little warm outside so I walked inside on the treadmill.

Enjoy your day friends and thanks for reading!
