What's Up Wednesday ~ June 2021

Happy What's Up Wednesday!  I am back from latest trip and joining in on this fun monthly link-up.

What we're eating this week............
Monday - I got back in town, so it was everyone on their own for food!
Tuesday - grilled chicken, roasted potatoes, green beans
Wednesday - ?
Thursday - tacos
Friday - hamburger & fries

And a throw back to last week's meal one night...We had a friend in town who stayed with us and I made skewers that were so good and served with rice.  I had marinated chicken, bacon, pineapple, green peppers, and red onions.  The grilled pineapple gave it such a good flavor!

What I'm reminiscing about..........
Brook and I went to the zoo with my sister, her daughters and all 5 of my greats! I will post more about this next week.

What I'm loving............
I have started going to a Dance Fusion class at our gym whenever I can.  It is an exercise class with a Latino dance feel and is so fun.

What we've been up to............
This month has been quick and busy.  Brook celebrated her last day of school and sold some art at a pop-up shop.
We took a family vacation to the beach.

What I'm dreading............
Not too much at the moment

What I'm working on.............
I am working on bookkeeping and a few other quick trips before the end of the year to plan.

What I'm excited about...........
Something I may can share next month

What I'm watching..............
We've been watching the college world series this week on TV.

What I'm listening to..............
I am listening to my stomach growl, ha!  Trying to resist having a bedtime snack. Other than in this moment, I'm just listening to podcasts and ceiling fans during the day :).

What I'm wearing.............
Skorts, dresses and all the cool things!

What I'm doing this weekend...........
No huge plans, except a pool party on Sunday for the 4th.

What I'm looking forward to next month..........
We have a quick weekend trip & hopefully some more fun time with friends and family. I am also looking forward to the 3rd season of Virgin River being released!

What else is new..............
I just got back from a weekend trip to Philadelphia, which I will blog about next week too.  On that trip, I did something on my bucket list....I ran the steps of Rocky!  The original Rocky movie from 1976 is one of my favorites and I have always wanted to do this.  It was so fun!
Not sure if you can see him or not, but in the picture below, I am towards the right and in the center was a guy in a gray sweat suit.  Everyone up there is there to see where Rocky stood.

More on the zoo and Philadelphia next week, but thanks for reading today!

Monthly Musings ~ June 2021

Hi!  It is time for another edition of Monthly Musings, this time with the theme of summer!

But first, a happy birthday to my dad!!

1.  Any last day of school traditions?

For both my girls, my high schooler and college girl, I buy them a gift.  The gifts are totally not related to grades, but just as a congratulations for finishing the year, especially after this past year with all its challenges.

2. Do you make a summer list?  What is everyone looking forward to most this summer?

Travel is what I'm looking forward to and time with my daughters.

3.  Any summer vacation plans?

More travel!  So far, we have had a few days at the beach.

This weekend, I have another little trip, a weekend trip in July and working on a long weekend trip in August.

4.  Favorite summer outfits?  What do you live in in the summer?

I have a few sundresses, skorts, loose fitting pants and cool shirts. However, I always keep a lightweight sweater in my car for going into restaurants or church, because it is usually cool.

5.  Favorite summer meal?

While it's not really a meal, I'll take frozen yogurt any day of the week.  Otherwise, I love salmon and vegetables because it's filling, healthy, but not heavy.

6. Do you end school in May or June? How about when you were growing up?

Typically, school ends the week before Memorial Day.  Since this past school year was all virtual & we started a few weeks later, my daughter didn't finish until the second week of June.  Her friends finished earlier, since they go to different schools.  They, along with some church leaders, came over on Brook's last day of school for lunch and they all put their feet in the hot tub.  It was a quick, fun celebration that day.

7.  Bikini? Tankini? One piece?

Usually, I wear a tankini and I do have this swimsuit, which is a one piece with a skirt, I ordered last year from Amazon.

8.  What are your 4th of July plans?

We may be going out of town that day or if in town, we will go to a friend's house for a BBQ & swim gathering.

9.  Do you dress in red, white and blue on July 4?

Yes!  It is usually a simple color choice and not a branded look.

10.  Charcoal or gas grill?

We have a table top gas grill, as pictured above, but I do like the taste of food cooked on a charcoal grill too.

Beach Trip, Part 2 ~ June 21, 2021

Welcome to another Monday!  Hope you all had a great weekend.
Today, I am wrapping up our short vacation from last week.  You can click here for part 1.

For the trip, we brought our own umbrella and chairs from home, so this was our little set up. The building behind the umbrella to the left is our condo building.
View from my chair

After a few hours on the beach, we got cleaned up for our evening boat cruise.  It was advertised to see dolphins, but no dolphins were in sight considering we really didn't go far out in the water and there is so much boat traffic!  We took this boat out of Destin and boats are everywhere!  They are pretty to see though and we enjoyed the ride in spite of seeing no dolphins.  It was fun to watch the sunset over the water....a sight I don't often see.
We got so tickled this kid got in our picture as he was walking by!
This boat had a hot tub on the back, 2 jet skis, and another small boat.  I could stay on that boat for a while!

We left the next day for our drive home.  Along the way, we saw random things and listened to podcasts and music along the way.

I love seeing a pretty beach, the vastness of the ocean and reflecting on God's bigness.  I also enjoy coming home and sleeping in my own bed!

Friday Favorites ~ Beach Vacation, Part 1

Happy Friday friends!  June has come in with a lot going on, so I haven't blogged in the last 2 weeks.  Part of that time, we went on a quick family vacation to the beach.  We have definitely traveled a lot over the past years, but it had been 13 years since the 4 of us went on a beach trip to Florida. So for this week, this was a favorite! Lots of pictures below!

I am so excited we have a Buc-ees a few hours away and I was able to introduce my daughters to it for the first time.

We now own 3 Buc-ees cups! We bought souvenirs, dinner and snacks for the week.
I love getting Texas brisket and we tried the fudge for the first time.
We stayed in a hotel and for this one night of the trip, we did some exercise after our Buc-ees excursion!
The next day, we drove into Seaside, Florida.  We ate at the food trucks, met up with one of my daughter's friends who was there with her family, then we had dinner at The Hub.

Afterwards, I picked up a few groceries and then we drove to our condo, which was on Okaloosa Island in Ft. Walton Beach.

The next morning, we left the condo at 5:30am for a fishing trip.  My husband wanted to do some fishing, so we made it a family event and called it his Father's Day :).  We all loved the boat ride and the views.

Here is a view from our room.  We had an easy walk down to the beach.  The girls and I went for a little while that afternoon.
A few hours later, a rain storm came for about an hour.  Thankfully, that was the only rain we saw on the trip and we were back in the room at this time.
We cleaned up and went for dinner.  These were delicious crab meat deviled eggs!
We finished off dinner with a delicious piece of Key Lime Pie.
Isabella and I took a sunset walk on the beach to end the day.

I'll be back Monday with part 2.  Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

Hodgepodge ~ September 10, 2025
