Friday Favorites ~ August 28, 2020

Happy Friday!  It's almost September and I am thankful to have some favorites this week.

ONE
I actually got these last week, but I found this awesome pair of boots for the winter on a clearance rack at Altar'd State.  I have only been in our local store a few times, but I really like it and my daughter and I always find something in the sale/clearance area.

TWO
This year, I only made 2 purchases from the Nordstrom sale.  I honestly didn't need that much and budget is quite the priority these days for us.  One of my purchases is a Christmas gift, so I wont' share that here, but I did purchase me a pair of shoes for this fall/winter.  These are the zip up sneakers, which are waterproof.  I am looking forward to using these in the near future.

THREE
Call me silly, but one of the little things that makes me happy is when I mow the grass and then it rains.  I love rain on a freshly mowed yard!

FOUR

I have been a space fan for the last 10 years and I watched a program this week on Disney Plus called Apollo:  Missions to the Moon.  These 2 pictures really struck me as beautiful with the American Flag on the moon where you can see footprints and then of course, the moon in the sky.  This is very interesting to watch if you're interested in space and have access to Disney Plus.

FIVE

Without a doubt, the highlight of my week was seeing my greats and holding the newest great.

Praying everyone is safe from the storms in the South these past few days.

What's Up Wednesday ~ August 2020

I am linking up today for the monthly What's Up Wednesday to reflect back on August and looking forward to September.

What we're eating this week...........
Monday - grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, cooked onions, green beans
Tuesday - hamburgers and chips
Wednesday - shrimp and rice
Thursday -  BBQ in the slow cooker served with salad, nachos or sandwich style
Friday - out
Saturday - out
Sunday - chicken fajitas

What I'm reminiscing about..........
Our vacation to Sea Island..I posted about this trip last week.

Also doing a little reminiscing on last year's 1st day of what is now known as normal school

What I'm loving............
I am still loving all my time at home.

What we've been up to..........
We made a little more progress last week on our bathroom remodel.  We now have doors, lights and mirrors, along with a shelf my husband built for the water closet. We are now using our bathroom for everything but the shower.  It still has some work to be done, along with the ceiling and creating a closet out of our old shower.
Here is a picture with the lights off so you can see them better.  We still have to fill some holes and will eventually have a tower that goes in the center of the countertop.
This is the new shelf my husband built and we will hang the big picture on the wall.

What I'm dreading.............
The first thing that came to mind is the beginning of virtual learning next week.  My youngest begins virtual learning on Monday and my dread is computer frustrations.  However, I hope they don't come to pass and know she will get in a routine soon.  We are certainly use to school at home considering I was a homeschool mom for 13 years. Here is my sophomore in college on her first day of 1st grade :).

What I'm working on.............
I have spent some time this week organizing drawers and cabinets and filing papers.  I feel like this is a reoccurring event for me, but I often put off this chore.  I am also working on insurance shopping.  Adulting basically :)

What I'm excited about............
Hopefully, I will see my greats this week or at least sometime soon. I do have some lunch plans this week and a few friends I hope to contact in September that I have not seen in quite a while.

What I'm watching/reading............
I subscribed to Disney Plus last month so we could watch Hamilton.  It was fun to see in that format and this week I have been watching other things on my Disney list before I cancel the subscription to save a little money.  I also have been watching the current re-runs of All Rise on CBS.  I really like the series of shows/movies on Hallmark Movies and Mystery Channel called "Signed, Sealed, Delivered".  This is about 4 employees of the US Postal Service who work in the dead letter department.  It has a little mystery, comedy and romance.  And yes, I'm still watching "Hart of Dixie"....for the 3rd time.

I am reading The Red Sea Rules.  It is a small, but powerful little book. Here is an insight to the book:
What I'm listening to..........
Musically, I have been listening to my Spotify playlist, which is either 90's country, 80's pop rock, Broadway or contemporary Christian. My Sirius XM channel these days is Yacht Rock.
With podcasts, I have just added a few more to start listening.  We will see if I keep all of these up, but they all got my attention:
Made For This with Jennie Allen
The Daily Grace
Rhythms for Life

I am still listening to my other weekly regular podcasts of The Office Ladies, The Big Boo and Proverbs 31.  Let me know if you have one you recommend!

What I'm wearing.........
I have a new pair of earrings that I bought in support of a fundraiser.  Click here to learn more and see all the cute gifts within this boutique.  These earrings are so lightweight, cute and they go with anything!

What I'm doing this weekend........
I just plan on trying to have things in order so my daughter can start virtual school in as much of a calm, organized way on Monday.

What I'm looking forward to next month.........
I am looking forward to what God has in store for our family.  September hosts 3 of my nieces birthdays and also my husband's birthday, so we will look forward to celebrating him.  While August has been mild, I am also looking forward to the weather not being too hot like it has been the last few Septembers.  I plan on bringing out some fall things after Labor Day!  I try to hold back on the pumpkins until October and start slow with the fall decorating, but we shall see!

What else is new...........
Now that our oldest in college, we begin our facetime talks and it always turns a little silly along the way :).

I'll be back Friday with some favorites!  Have a great Wednesday!

Friday Favorites ~ August 2020

Today I am linking up with Friday Favorites for lots of favorites.

1.  Vacation recaps!  I recapped our vacation to Sea Island, Georgia earlier this week. It was the most beautiful resort!  President Bush actually hosted the G8 summit there in 2004.

Part 1....here

Part 2....here

Part 3....here

2.  We also had a great day in Savannah, exploring it as a potential college location for our daughter.

3.  For the past few years, I have renewed our Sirius XM account every few months to get their ongoing promotion.  I was able to get one for a year, which includes streaming.  This came in so handy when we went on vacation in a different vehicle and were still able to stream our favorite XM channels.  The cool thing about it was you can see from the app which songs are playing at that time and they always start at the beginning when you click play.  We listened to some favorites....

And we listened to the Devil Went Down to Georgia a few times on our trip to Georgia.

4.  Like so many of us these past few weeks, it has been a mild August and allowed for more pleasant weather for walks. Another favorite was this awesome pair of pants I found at Wal-Mart that I wore on an evening walk!
You know I am a big fan of The Office!

5.  I have treated myself to some cool treats this week.  I am a huge fan of frozen yogurt, but honestly haven't had it as much this year.  This week, my daughter and I did get some and it was lovely.
I also treated myself to a homemade simple treat of cool whip, strawberries and sugar free chocolate syrup.

6.  And lastly for this week, I have just enjoyed the view from my couch this week and reflected on being thankful for our home.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Savannah, Georgia

Have any of you ever been to Savannah?  It is such a beautiful city!  Prior to last week, I had stayed there and had dinner for one night in 1999 while on a road trip, but honestly, don't have much memory of the city.  On our way back from Sea Island, Georgia last week, we stopped in Savannah for about 4 hours to see the city.  The main reason was because our youngest wanted to see SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design).  She is interested in attending this school, so we will see what the future holds.  In the meantime, we enjoyed walking around the city and ate lunch there.

She loved Savannah!
Below is the area where freshman live at SCAD.  It was so nice!  We couldn't get out due to COVID restrictions, but we were thankful to be able to make a loop through the residential area.

After Savannah, we went to Chattanooga and dropped off Isabella at school for her 2nd year of college.  She is renting a house with some other girls this year & was so happy to be back, even though most of her classes are online.  I know she will do great, but I did cry more this year than I did last year.
Oh my goodness, I am not sure how I am going to take this in 2 years when I send my other one off to college. I am so thankful to be these girls momma.

Vacation ~ Sea Island, Georgia Part 3

Today I am finishing off our vacation from Sea Island, Georgia.  If you missed it, part 1 is here, full of resort pictures and part 2 is here, full of family pictures.

We spent our days at the resort and actually brought in most of our food.  We ate breakfast and lunch in our room, or packed a bag and ate by the pool.  For dinners, we drove to local restaurants in the local town instead of eating at the resort.  The resort, while so beautiful, was very expensive for food and activities.

Some of our group went on kayaking trip one morning outside of the resort.  It was a fun and different outing.

This is our group photo.....with a little editing from my teenager :)

We are thankful for this trip and opportunity to have a change of scenery and spend time with family.  It was a good mix of time with everyone and time on our own as a family unit.  Here are my people:

Thanks for reading along this week!

Hodgepodge ~ September 10, 2025
