I loved growing up in the 70's, And thanks to a facebook page, I have some throwback photos of Memphis to share with you today. Enjoy!!
(Disclaimer: This is the only photo that is originally mine)
Oh, how everyone loved the Enchanted Forest Downtown at Goldsmiths at Christmas time! You walked through this tunnel which led you to the cute display of a winter wonderland! This was a childhood staple of every Christmas season and where we had our picture taken with Santa.
The Hungry Fisherman
We use to eat here and feed the ducks afterwards.
Sad day :(
BBQ place in Memphis
I think this is where we went to eat to celebrate when my brother-in-law graduated from college.
Mid South Coliseum
This is still standing today, but is no longer used. I saw so many concerts here, inlcuding my first, Elvis Presley.
Speaking of Elvis, here is a photo of the hearse leaving Graceland when Elvis died. Another sad day.
Libertyland
The original theme park in Memphis, which is now closed and non-existent. We use to go every summer with our cousins and also went there during the Mid-South Fair. Avery and I went here the night we met.
Zippin Pippin
This is the famous wooden roller coaster from Libertyland, and Elvis' favorite.
Shakey's Pizza Parlor
I had my birthday here when I was in elementary school and it snowed the day of my party....in early November!!
Memphis Chicks
This was the AA baseball team in Memphis prior to the AAA Redbirds team which is there now. We use to go to the games each summer and we became friends with one of the players.
Memphis Zoo
This is the original entrance to the zoo.
Charles Chips
We use to have an original can from this company from when we actually had chips delivered to our door. I'm guessing this can is still in my parents house somewhere!
Pop Tunes
This is the famous record store that was in Memphis. If K-Mart didn't have it, I needed a place to buy the latest Donny Osmond album, or later on, Duran Duran, Hall & Oates, and my fave, Huey Lewis and the News.
Mall of Memphis
This is an interior view of the Mall of Memphis, which is originally where the only indoor ice skating rink was in Memphis.
Southbrook Mall
This is an old photo, as you can see by the cars. My brother use to work at the movie theater here and we would go here and to the mall across the street every week in the summer time with my grandmother.
Graceland
Graceland all in lights at Christmas.
Memphis International Airport
I've always loved seeing it lit up in Christmas colors every December. I am glad I got to see this just last month!
I hope you enjoyed some of these photos and memories of Memphis!
